How many 5-star reviews to raise your Google rating?
Enter your current average, review count and a target. See how many 5-star reviews it takes, and how much one bad review moves you.
To reach 4.5
48 five-star reviews in a row
- One new 1-star review: 4.20 → 4.16
- One new 5-star review: 4.20 → 4.21
- With this many reviews, single reviews move the average only slightly; steady habits matter more.
Simple averages of your numbers. Google may calculate and round its displayed rating differently. Never buy reviews or ask only happy customers: Google prohibits both.
Questions
Good to know
How is the math done?
A simple average: (current average × count + new stars) ÷ new count. Google may compute and round its displayed figure differently.
Why can't I reach 5.0?
Unless every review is 5 stars, the average can get close to 5.0 but never reach it.
Can I just ask happy customers for reviews?
Ask every customer, not only happy ones. Google's policies prohibit selectively soliciting positive reviews and buying reviews.
Do replies raise my rating?
Not directly. A good reply to a complaint can encourage some reviewers to update their review, but never pressure them to.
